The AD database consists of partitions that can replicate independently. Specifically, Schema, and Configurationalways replicate forest-wide, Domainreplicates within its domain, and Applicationreplicates according to predefined rules. Also remember the Global Catalog (GC), which replicates throughout the forest, but only between other GCs.
Decimal number display error in custom lists!
I encountered a decimal number display error while creating a new DispForm.aspx in SharePoint Designer: numbers stored with a decimal comma were not displayed. The Discount field was meant to display a percentage, so entering 10% automatically converted it to 0,1. The problem is the Czech language environment (Czech language pack), which stores the value with a comma (0,1) rather than a decimal point (0.1), then cannot read it back. This occurred on SharePoint Services 3 SP2 with all current updates, so another workaround was needed.
Windows XP/Vista/7 as a network router
A workstation running Windows 7/Vista/XP can also act as a network router, useful for quickly connecting networks with different address ranges when a professional router is unavailable. In this example, a Windows XP workstation connects network A (10.10.10.0/24) with network B (192.168.20.0/24) while providing Internet access to both.
What is a UPN (User Principal Name)?
UPN (user principal name) is a logon method used in Windows networks since version 2003. A UPN has two parts: a suffix and a prefix. Take suzan@WoodgroveBank.local as an example.
- UPN prefix is suzan
- UPN suffix is WoodgroveBank.local
By default, the suffix is the name of the domain where the user was created. Additional suffixes can be added so users can sign in with another name (such as their email address), but the suffix must be unique throughout the forest.
SharePoint – changing a single-line text field’s width using CSS
When creating a custom NewForm.aspx or EditForm.aspx in SharePoint containing single-line text fields, you cannot normally change their width. It is fixed in the system CSS, which can be overridden by specifying the same style with the desired width. Insert the following into your NewForm.aspx or EditForm.aspx:
AD DS trusts
AD DS trusts allow mutual trust (authentication) between domains and forests. Users can authenticate in their own domain and use their credentials (security ticket) to access shared resources in another domain.
Tools for managing AD DS objects (Management, cmd, LDIFDE, CSVDE, PowerShell)
To manage AD DS objects, we most often use the Active Directory Users and Computer console. To change multiple objects in bulk, automate object creation, etc., we can use other tools for modifying AD DS objects – cmd, LDIFDE, CSVDE and Powershell.
Strategies for using AD security groups
One main reason for creating AD user groups is to give users access to shared resources such as shared folders, printers and Windows SharePoint. When planning access to these resources, ensure that:
AD groups – types and scopes
In AD groups can have several types and scopes (Group Types and Group Scopes).
Types of AD objects
In AD you can create several types of objects (Types of AD DS Objects).
