Updates for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition (April 2023 CU)

A new cumulative update (April 2023 CU) has been released for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.

SP Build:
16.0.16130.20314

Starting with the March 2023 CU, updates for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition are released as a single package (known as an Uber package) containing both language-independent and language-dependent fixes. Only one package needs to be installed to fully update the server.

SharePoint Subscription Edition CU – KB articles describing the CU:

  • KB 5002375 – April 2023 Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition

After installation, remember to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard or the following command:

PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install

Important notes

The language you select when downloading the update does not matter because the same package is downloaded for every language.

Note for this CU:

Installing KB5002375 requires the release version of Microsoft SharePoint Server Subscription Edition on the computer.

New Search service applications cannot be created successfully starting with the March 14, 2023 update KB5002355. In Central Administration, their Search Service Application: Search Administration page reports: "The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component." Applications created before that March update continue to work normally. The issue is resolved by KB5002390.

Included fixes and improvements

The following overview summarizes the fixes and improvements in this CU based on the official Microsoft KB articles.

SharePoint Server Subscription Edition

KB5002375 addresses a spoofing vulnerability in Microsoft SharePoint Server: CVE-2023-28288.

The SharePoint Server Subscription Edition package KB5002375 includes the following improvement and fixes:

  • Ensures that the SharePoint farm service account belongs to the database owner group for the subscription settings service application database.

  • Fixes an issue where deleting the document library web part’s title in edit mode displaces the See all button and makes further title changes impossible.

  • Fixes an issue where the document library web part keeps its previous title after its target library is changed.

  • Fixes an issue where file uploads in the modern document library web part fail for files larger than 25 MB.

  • Fixes an issue where edits made through the Document Information Panel (DIP) in Microsoft Word do not appear in SharePoint.

  • Fixes an issue where Office Online Server cannot provide a preview of a document containing Korean characters.

  • Fixes an issue where selecting Authenticated on Central Administration’s Outgoing E-Mail Settings page leaves the username and password fields disabled.

  • Fixes an issue where uploading files to a shared My Site folder leaves the OneDrive Next Generation Sync Client stuck in "Sync pending".

  • Fixes an issue where, with multiple external lists, only one list can display its items in the display form. Items can now be displayed in all the forms.

  • Fixes an issue where selecting a resolved user in a PersonWithoutPresence field briefly produces "No Results" instead of immediately filling the field.

  • Fixes an issue where Internet Explorer cannot open a modern site.

  • Fixes an issue where the Text web part keeps showing the Loading spinner rather than content pasted from the Microsoft Word or Microsoft OneNote desktop application.

  • Fixes an issue where the document library web part fails to report a name conflict when an existing file or folder cannot be uploaded.
