A new cumulative update has been released for SharePoint Server 2019 (April 2019 CU).

16.0.10343.20000 (Language independent CU)
16.0.10343.20000 (Language dependent CU)

SharePoint 2016 CU – KB articles describing the CU:

  • KB 4464518 – April 2019 Update for SharePoint Server 2019 (language independent)

  • This CU does not include an update for Office Online Server

SharePoint Server 2016 CU – CU download link:

After installation, remember to run the SharePoint 2016 configuration wizard (SharePoint 2019 Products Configuration Wizard), or the following command:
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install

Important

Always install both packages in this order:

  1. language independent (updates language-independent components)
  2. language dependent (updates language-dependent components)

For language-dependent packages (language dependent), it does not matter which language you select, because each package contains updates for all languages.

If you install a new language pack on a SharePoint Server 2019 farm, you must subsequently reinstall the language-dependent package (language dependent).

Remember that, in addition to SharePoint, the Distributed Cache service must also be updated; see How to update Distributed Cache correctly and, for Office Online Server, you must have the current RTM version; see  How to update Office Online Server.

Included fixes and improvements

The list of fixes and improvements in this CU consists of excerpts from official Microsoft KB articles in their original language (EN).

SharePoint Server 2019

This security update resolves a cross-site–scripting (XSS) vulnerability that exists when Microsoft SharePoint Server does not correctly sanitize a specially crafted web request that’s made to an affected SharePoint server. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2019-0830 and Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2019-0831.

This security update contains fixes for the following nonsecurity issues:

  • If there is a “Multiple lines of text” column in a SharePoint list, and the “Enhanced rich text ” setting is applied to this column, the content in the column may not be always searchable in a search crawl.
  • For right-to-left (RTL) languages, images are not displayed in some web parts (such as Hero, News, and People) that use the Image Component in the Fabric React component to show images.
  • In an environment that uses the Japanese new era calendar, date formats that contain year aren’t applied on the Timeline view for dates that occur after May 1, 2019.
  • If multiple SharePoint farms use the same extended zone and consume a published search service application, search queries from this extended zone don’t return results.
  • You can’t coauthor on Office files if a SharePoint server is installed in a time zone of GMT+1 or greater.

This update contains the following improvement:

  • Updates the strings “Chinese (PRC)” to “Chinese (Simplified)” in SharePoint Server 2019 Chinese (Simplified) Language Pack and “Chinese (Taiwan)” to “Chinese (Traditional)” in SharePoint Server 2019 Chinese (Traditional) Language Pack.

This update also fixes the following issue:

  • For right-to-left (RTL) languages, images are not displayed in web parts (such as Hero, News and People) that use Image Component in Fabric React to show images.
