After installation, remember to run the SharePoint 2016 Products Configuration Wizard (SharePoint 2016 Products Configuration Wizard), or the following command:
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install

Notice

Always install both packages in this order:

  1. language independent (updates language-independent components and increases the SP Build version)
  2. language dependent (updates language-dependent components)

For language-dependent packages, it does not matter which language you select, as each package contains updates for all languages.

If you install a new language pack on your SharePoint Server 2016 farm, you must then reinstall the language-dependent update package.

Remember that Distributed Cache must also be updated alongside SharePoint; see How to update Distributed Cache correctly.

Included fixes and improvements

This CU includes the following fixes and improvements.

SharePoint Server 2016

  • When you export eDiscovery search results, preserved attachments aren’t exported.
  • You don’t correctly escape quotation marks when a list item is exported from the Preservation Hold list.
  • Improve word breaking for Thai.
  • The administrative backup and restore of the Category and Group Settings don’t work.
  • After you upgrade a site from SharePoint Server 2013 to SharePoint Server 2016 (such as by using the mount-spcontentdatabase cmdlet), versioning is enabled for all document libraries even if they did not have this feature previously enabled.
  • After you use the SharePoint Active Directory import option (AD import) for a User Profile service application, the Assistant property’s value is incorrectly set to the Manager property’s value.

Project Server 2016

  • Reliability and functionality issues when a SharePoint Server 2013 content farm is consuming a UPA service application from a SharePoint Server 2016 farm.
  • A user cannot edit summary tasks lock field in the Project Center while using Project Web App.
  • You can’t edit items in quick edit mode in a document library that has more than two pages of files when the Edit function (the link to edit items) is enabled. This issue occurs after you move to a different page of items.
  • Sub projects may become normal projects sporadically in Project 2016.
