UPN (user principal name) is a logon method used in Windows networks since version 2003. A UPN has two parts: a suffix and a prefix. Take suzan@WoodgroveBank.local as an example.
- UPN prefix is suzan
- UPN suffix is WoodgroveBank.local
By default, the suffix is the name of the domain where the user was created. Additional suffixes can be added so users can sign in with another name (such as their email address), but the suffix must be unique throughout the forest.

UPN example:
In microsoft.local, a user's UPN would be user@microsoft.local. Adding microsoft.com as a suffix allows the user to sign in using user@microsoft.com.
Add another suffix through the Active Directory Domains and Trusts console.
