Types of AD objects

In AD you can create several types of objects (Types of AD DS Objects).

Object name	Description
User (User)	Provides user logon and access to resources without additional logons (single sign-on). Contains a unique security identifier (SID) for the user account. Further divided into local, domain and built-in accounts.
Computer (Computer)	Enables computer authentication and controls resource access.
Groups (Groups)	Allow users, computers or other groups to be grouped together. Manage access to domain resources. Have different types and scopes.
InetOrgPerson	Similar to user accounts. Used for compatibility with other directory services
Organization units (Organisational units)	Used for groups of similar objects to configure permissions or assign security policies.
Printers (Printers)	Represent physical printers. Used to simplify finding and connecting to printers.
Shared folders (Shared folders)	Used to simplify finding and connecting to shared folders.
