A new cumulative update has been released for SharePoint Server 2019 (February 2020 CU).

16.0.10355.20000 (Language dependent CU)

SharePoint 2019 CU – KB articles describing the CU:

  • KB 4484259 – February 2020 Update for SharePoint Server 2019 (language independent)
  • KB 4484225 – February 2020 Update for SharePoint Server 2019 (language dependent)
  • KB 4484254 – February 2020 Update for Office Online Server

SharePoint Server 2019 CU – CU download link:

After installation, remember to run the SharePoint 2019 configuration wizard (SharePoint 2019 Products Configuration Wizard), or the following command:
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install

Important

Always install both packages in this order:

  1. language independent (updates language-independent components)
  2. language dependent (updates language-dependent components)

For language-dependent packages (language dependent), it does not matter which language you select, because each package contains updates for all languages.

If you install a new language pack on a SharePoint Server 2019 farm, you must subsequently reinstall the language-dependent package (language dependent).

Remember that, in addition to SharePoint, the Distributed Cache service must also be updated; see How to update Distributed Cache correctly and, for Office Online Server, you must have the current RTM version; see  How to update Office Online Server.

Included fixes and improvements

The list of fixes and improvements in this CU consists of excerpts from official Microsoft KB articles in their original language (EN).

SharePoint Server 2019

This security update resolves a cross-site-scripting (XSS) vulnerability that exists if Microsoft SharePoint Server does not correctly sanitize a specially crafted web request to an affected SharePoint server. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2020-0693 and Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2020-0694.

This security update contains improvements and fixes for the following nonsecurity issues:

  • Adds support for the SameSite cookie attribute to remain compatible with changes in how web browsers such as Chrome handle cookies.
  • SharePoint Hybrid Auditing (preview) is deprecated. The Hybrid Auditing documentation link is now removed from the SharePoint Central Administration page.
  • This update successfully crawls empty files that were previosuly reported as crawl errors.
  • Fixes the Content Deployment job bug that causes failures and returns an “AppFiles (Template ID:126) list already exists” error message.
  • Fixes the crawl failure that occurs if a document library contains an item that has a document ID URL that points to another site collection.
  • Fixes the issue in which List items appear in the wrong group in Modern UI.

SharePoint Hybrid Auditing (preview) is deprecated. The Hybrid Auditing documentation link is now removed from the SharePoint Central Administration page.

Office Online Server

This security update resolves aspoofing vulnerability that exists if Office Online Server does not validate origins in cross-origin communications correctly. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2020-0695.

Known issues in this update

After you install this security update, Office Online Server logging will be set to Verbose by default. We recommend that you change this setting to Medium by running the following command:

Set-OfficeWebAppsFarm -LogVerbosity “Medium”

Note After you run the command, you have to restart the Office Online Service. To do this, run the following command:

Restart-Service WACSM
