SharePoint 2019 CU – KB articles describing the CU:

  • KB 4484224 – January 2020 Update for SharePoint Server 2019 (language independent)
  • This CU does not include an update for the language-dependent components of SharePoint Server 2016 (the nearest update for the language-dependent components is KB 4484176)
  • KB 4484223 – January 2020 Update for Office Online Server

SharePoint Server 2019 CU – CU download link:

After installation, remember to run the SharePoint 2019 configuration wizard (SharePoint 2019 Products Configuration Wizard), or the following command:
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install

Important

Always install both packages in this order:

  1. language independent (updates language-independent components)
  2. language dependent (updates language-dependent components)

For language-dependent packages (language dependent), it does not matter which language you select, because each package contains updates for all languages.

If you install a new language pack on a SharePoint Server 2019 farm, you must subsequently reinstall the language-dependent package (language dependent).

Remember that, in addition to SharePoint, the Distributed Cache service must also be updated; see How to update Distributed Cache correctly and, for Office Online Server, you must have the current RTM version; see  How to update Office Online Server.

Included fixes and improvements

The list of fixes and improvements in this CU consists of excerpts from official Microsoft KB articles in their original language (EN).

SharePoint Server 2019

This update improves the compliance level of cookies that are generated by a SharePoint search.
This update fixes the following issues in SharePoint Server 2019:
  • When consuming an upgraded SharePoint 2019 User Profile Service from SharePoint 2016, admins are unable to create workflows that use the User Profile Data Source.
  • When the Product Configuration Wizard runs, it re-creates the SharePoint firewall rules. If third-party firewall rules with the same name as the SharePoint rules exist, the Product Configuration Wizard removes them. This update resolves this issue.
  • You are unable to access Office Add-Ins from a document that’s opened in a browser when they are provided by the SharePoint App Catalog Service.
  • After the ClearSyncDataForContentDatabase method is called, the User Profile Service Application sync job is unable to start again.
  • Search results or suggestions don’t render correctly on the modern onedrive.aspx page. This issue occurs in Internet Explorer 11.
This update fixes the following issues in Project Server 2019:
  • Loading a timesheet takes a long time and may time out.
  • Resource calendars aren’t updated correctly when a base calendar changes. This may cause the timephased actual work reported by a team member to appear on different days from where it was entered.
  • You are unable to set the assignment Actual Cost field either as a timephased or scalar value through the client-side object model (CSOM).

Office Online Server

This security update resolves a spoofing vulnerability that exists if Office Online does not validate the origin in cross-origin communications correctly. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2020-0647.

Known issues in this update

After you install this security update, Office Online Server logging will be set to Verbose by default. We recommend that you change this setting to Medium by running the following command:

Set-OfficeWebAppsFarm -LogVerbosity “Medium”

Note After you run the command, you have to restart the Office Online Service. To do this, run the following command:

Restart-Service WACSM
